Choosing and Improving POV in Fiction
Readers want to get lost in good stories, and strong point-of-view characters make that possible. Weak point-of-view characters make it hard for readers to engage with a story, which makes it easy for them to put down a book and walk away. Don’t give them the chance! In this workshop, Karin will show you how to help your clients pick the right POV for their books, as well as each chapter and scene. Then she’ll provide tips to help authors create deep POV characters that will whisk away their readers.

Having the Hard Conversations
Editors need to be honest with authors, even when it’s hard, so it’s important to learn how to have those hard conversations. In this session, Karin will answer these questions: What is a hard conversation? Why do you need to have them? When should you have them? She’ll also cover the content of those conversations, including the sandwich method, encouraging verbiage, and follow-up.

Help Fiction Authors Create Engaging, Vivid Dialogue
Dialogue is an amazing tool that can help authors reveal backstory, develop characterization, and keep a story moving. It can also bog down a manuscript, make things awkward, and pull a reader out of the story. From formatting to word choice to syntax, Karin will give tips you can use to help your authors create vivid, engaging dialogue.
